Summary: Pietro opens his eyes and sees an unknown reality: a boarding school, a physically squared place, surrounded by a wall beyond which water can be intuited. Maybe it's an island. But he doesn't know why he's there. In his mind there are flashes of Eden: there's a girl who runs with him, it's Irina, his fairy playmate. And somewhere, elsewhere, there are images of a female body unable to move, in a mysterious place. Back home, he will see his mother, beautiful and terrible, entertain himself with foreigners whom he alone does not want to recognize as Nazis and on Irina's tombstone and between the pages of his secret diary he will learn endless things about people and times around him
