- Summary
-
- "We all hold onto otherwise ordinary objects that symbolize what is most important to us. These things become transformed through their association with people and experiences into irreplaceable conveyers of identity, emotion, and memory. Meaningful events, whether historic or personal, generate these resonant items as we struggle with changing conditions. In the face of sudden disruption and inexplicable loss, there is a strong need to bridge the irretrievable past with a hopeful future. With the help of significant physical things, we elicit memories and tell stories. Guided by Frank Langella's narration and set to the music of Philip Glass, Objects and Memories examines items recovered from or offered in response to dramatic and pervasive American experiences, along with stories of people who find them important. In doing so, the film helps viewers better understand their own thoughts, emotions, and behavior; the intangible values they hold dear; and the tangible objects that represent them"--Copyright descriptive material
