- Summary
- "In recent years and in many parts of the world there has been a transformation in the management of the public sector. The rigid, bureaucratic, form of public administration that dominated for most of the twentieth century has been replaced by a flexible, market-based, form of public management. This 'new managerialism' represents not just a change in organization or management style but a different role for government in society. Public Management and Administration introduces and assesses the principles and theories underlying changes in the management of the public sector. Newer public management models are being adopted all over the world, and the basis, nature and dimensions of these -- as well as their theoretical underpinnings -- are considered in detail. The third edition of this highly successful text has been systematically revised and updated throughout and includes a new chapter on e-government. Book jacket."--BOOK JACKET
