- Summary
- "Ayukawa Yoshisuke (1880-1967) was the founder of the Nissan conglomerate and the leader of the quasi-governmental Manchuria Industrial Development Corporation, one of the linchpins of imperial Japan's efforts to develop and exploit Manchuria economically. Despite his close association with the Japanese government from the 1920s to the 1950s, Ayukawa was a believer in promoting global prosperity and peace through economic interdependence. Tight economic and business links between nations were, he felt, the best guarantees of peace and prosperity." "Although Ayukawa's efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, the reasons for his failures illuminate many of the current economic problems of Japan. His ideas about transforming the Japanese economy by increasing U.S.-Japanese economic interdependence have great contemporary relevance as Japan attempts to change its economic structure from a highly state-regulated one largely closed to foreign investment to one that is more open and market-oriented."--BOOK JACKET
